Songfacts®:

  • This is the lead single and opening track from American Metalcore band Attila's fifth album About That Life. It was the second record by the band that was produced by Joey Sturgis, who has previously worked with such groups as The Devil Wears Prada, We Came as Romans and Asking Alexandria.
  • Lead vocalist Chris "Fronz" Fronzak told Artist Direct about the song: "It's our intro track, and it sets the pace for the album and establishes the vibe," he explained. "To me, it means don't let anybody put you down, don't give in to anybody's bulls--t, do whatever you want, don't give in to peer pressure, and you can do anything you choose to do. If people tell you otherwise, keep your middle fingers up, and just do you. Don't do what other people tell you to.

"It's how we approach music," Fronz continued. "If we were ever told to write a certain way or be like this, we would put our middle fingers up. That approach has helped us a lot. I think people can apply that to other things in life. If you have a passion in life, you should pursue it no matter what. If someone tells you that you shouldn't, that's fu--ed up. Just flip them off."
  • Putting your two middle fingers at a person or thing is a crude gesture of abuse, defiance or contempt. Legend has it that the gesture originated at the 1415 Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred Years' War. The French, certain of victory, had threatened to cut off the bow-fingers of all the English longbowmen. When the English were victorious, the archers held up their fingers in 'defiance.'
