Songfacts®:

  • This electro-charged club track was released exclusively via iTunes on April 12, 2011 as former Danity Kane songstress Aubrey O'Day's first solo single. The song was produced by Danity Kane collaborator Adonis Shropshire whose resume includes the hits "My Boo" and "Last Chance."
  • O'Day told Billboard magazine that even though she "wanted to come with a ballad first just to throw people for a loop," she's happy with "Automatic" as her solo career's calling card. "'Automatic' is the right fit for where music is headed now," she explained. "It's a pop-dance track, but I wanted to go in the club and write a song about not having to put on all the glamour and the glitz. So many dance songs are about putting on Louis Vuitton, getting dressed up and everything, and I wanted to do a song about walking in the room and getting automatically noticed and stealing everyone's attention without trying to."
  • O'Day's first solo single was released two and a half years after she was dismissed from Danity Kane in October 2008. So what had she been up to in the meantime? After leaving the girl group, O'Day kept herself busy, starring as Amber Von Tussle in the Broadway musical Hairspray, appeared in the 2009 movie American High School and headlining Planet Hollywood Vegas' Peepshow. The ex Danity Kane member also released a 2009 buzz single, "Never Fallin'," as she began to pursue her solo music career.
