Songfacts®:

  • "Batter Up" is the debut digital single of South Korean girl group BabyMonster. YG Entertainment released the song on November 27, 2023. Set to a bouncy rap-like beat, the members introduce themselves as confident and unapologetic personalities.
  • The phrase "Batter Up" is borrowed from the world of baseball: It's the umpire's cue for the next batter to step into the batter's box. In the song it symbolizes BabyMonster's moment to seize the stage, reveal their characters and make their mark.
  • Rami kickstarts the action with a bold declaration of independence in the opening verse. On the refrain, Pharita declares they "sting like a bee," like boxing great Muhammad Ali, while Rami asserts that she's out for your heart, pledging no harm. It's a BabyMonster takeover and they're at bat, ready to swing for the fences.

Ruka takes the mic for the second verse, spitting baseball lingo as she grabs the baton, poised to drive the crowd wild. The finale cranks up the volume, turning the track into a thumping dance anthem as the group unites, officially launching their era.
  • Group member Asa wrote "Batter Up" alongside Choi Hyun Suk, the leader of K-Pop group Treasure; AKMU member Lee Chanhyuk; and producers Chaz Mishan, Jared Lee and Yang Hyun-suk. The latter is YG Entertainment's chairman.
  • The music video broke the record for the most-viewed debut K-pop music video in 24 hours. According to YG Entertainment, it gained 22.59 million views within the first day of its release on YouTube, breaking a record previously held by Aespa, who garnered 21.4 million views with the visual for their debut single "Black Mamba" in November 2020.
