Songfacts®:

  • It may be separated from it by nearly half a century, but this Les Holroyd composition expresses the same sentiments as Noël Coward's "World Weary", though from a general rather than a personal perspective. Coward's song was inspired by a bout of depression in New York; "Crazy City" is written with London in mind but could be about any great city. The message is that sometimes we all need to get away from the rat race, the 24 hour global village and the stresses of modern life.
  • "Crazy City" was released as the B-Side of "Poor Boy Blues" on the Polydor label on May 25, 1974. The live version from their 1974 double album is probably the definitive recording. >>>
