Songfacts®:

  • "Jonathan" is one of many songs inspired by the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull, which was filmed with a Neil Diamond soundtrack. With their often metaphysical approach, it is hardly surprising that Barclay James Harvest would have produced such a song, though one would have expected it to have been penned by the bird-obsessed John Lees, whose compositions include "Mocking Bird," (the rather silly) "Brother Thrush" and "Harry's Song" (about a parrot). "Jonathan" was in fact written by Les Holroyd, and is a fair effort in a laid-back sort of way. >>>
