Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by Natasha Khan (aka Bat For Lashes) in New York, where her boyfriend lived. During their relationship the English singer-songwriter found herself traveling back and forth between her home country and the Big Apple. In this song, she refers to New York as her Emerald City.
  • Khan told Q magazine July 2009 that when she writes she sees the song. She added that this song, "is green, like the Emerald City, and I was seeing England and America and the huge ocean between the two and seeing myself flying across into New York, which was a crystal city made of glass."
