Songfacts®:

  • To "throw caution to the wind" means to behave in a completely reckless manner. Becky Hill was inspired to write the song by her love of such idiomatic expressions. "I decided to write a song based around idioms," she said. "There are around 13 on 'Caution' like 'Come hell or high water' and 'I'm going to go the extra mile'. They're how I feel about myself and my music."
  • The Oxford Dictionary of Idioms defines an idiom as 'a phrase that behaves like a word.' There are estimated to be at least twenty-five thousand idiomatic expressions in the English language, so Hill had plenty to choose from!
  • The song's music video was directed by Fred Rowson, whose other credits include the clip for DVBBS and Borgeous UK chart-topper "Tsunami (Jump)." Rowson said that he wanted the visual to "create a world in which we see the processes of creation, growing and ageing, shrunk down to model size and played out in front of our eyes."
