Songfacts®:

  • This energetic single finds Bedouin Soundclash frontman Jay Malinowski trying to break through a negative thought loop with the help of Marcia Richards of the reggae-punk band The Skints, who urges him to "shine on" in the chorus.

"The lyrics are about us doing the same things over and over, saying the same things over and over," Malinowski explained in a track-by-track commentary. "It's kind of a reminder to not take things too seriously, I'm just a pixel in the screen with a pretty low resolution view of the world. Best leave the worrying to someone else."
  • When Malinowski first wrote this, he didn't have Bedouin Soundclash in mind. "I thought the piano line had a kind of '90s house, 'Beats International' vibe," he explained. "So I got in touch with Marcia Richards from The Skints because I thought she would sound really good on it and could maybe use it for something in her musical world. Then Eon heard it and he loved it.

Then Marcia told me she thought it should be a Bedouin song. So voila! It became a Bedouin song."
  • This was released as a double single with "Something Lost + Something Found."
  • Malinowski co-produced the album with Colin Stewart (The New Pornographers, Dan Mangan) - a departure from their previous two releases (Light The Horizon, Mass), which were helmed by Philadelphia producer King Britt.
