Songfacts®:

  • "Slow It Down" is an aching piano-driven track where Benson Boone delves into the complexities of overthinking a romance. A chance encounter with a captivating woman from Georgia at a LA party sparks a connection. Sparks fly, but she becomes unnerved as their relationship moves too quickly and she starts fretting like a cornered badger. Boone realizes he's unwittingly dragged her into a mental whirlwind and urges her to slow down. Are they truly meant to be, or just two souls adrift in a sea of overthinking? The song fades out, leaving the fate of this tempestuous romance a mystery.
  • Boone released "Slow It Down" via Night Street/ Warner as the second single from Fireworks & Rollerblades on March 21, 2024. Boone's anxieties about losing his romantic connection mirror the experiences he outlined in the previous single, "Beautiful Things." In that song, he sings about his fear of parting with the beautiful things he loves.
  • The song's rain-soaked music video parallels the lyrics. We see Boone juggling instruments under a stormy sky, which represents the couple's inner turmoil.
  • Benson Boone wrote "Slow It Down" with Jason Evigan, Connor McDonough, Riley McDonough and Jack LaFrantz.

The California songwriter and producer Jason Evigan also co-wrote and co-produced Boone's second single, "In The Stars." Other songs on his resumé include Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack," and Maroon 5's "Girls Like You."

The brothers Connor and Riley McDonough's other credits include Joji's "Glimpse Of Us" and V's "Fri(end)s."

Jackson LaFrantz is Boone's go-to songwriting partner.
