Songfacts®:

  • A number of commentators have described this collaboration with Sean Garrett as the feminine companion to Lil Wayne's hit song "A Milli."
  • Beyoncé has a songwriting credit on most Sasha Fierce tracks. She co-wrote "Diva" with producer Bangladesh and Shaun Garrett. However, there are rumors on the web that the Texan singer did not actually pen the songs herself but employed a ghostwriter instead. Bangladesh addressed this matter during an interview with Bossip. He said: "It doesn't matter who is writing or producing the songs. Who is delivering them, is what matters. It doesn't matter if Beyonce is there physically writing the song. I mean even if she's not, it doesn't mean that she can't. It might be a case of her not having time."
A further statement by Bangladesh implies that there is substance to the ghostwriter rumors. He said, "People from the outside looking in want to know whether or not she writes her own songs, she's on a level where things are handed to her. People wanna be a part of what she's doing. She either wrote it, or she can put her name on it. It doesn't matter because that's the boss she is."
  • This is the song that American track and field star Alyson Felix likes to listen to before a race. "As athletes, we rely so much on that motivation from musicians and what they do," she told TeamUSA.org. "You're listening to their music in the warm-up field to get you pumped up. And I'm very specific. I have to listen to Beyoncé's 'Diva.' I have to get that alter-ego on. I have to go to that different place. I'm a really laid-back person, but when it comes to the track I've got to switch it on."
  • "Diva" experienced a resurgence in popularity in late 2024 thanks to a viral TikTok trend where creators showcase their own diva-like moments.
