Songfacts®:

  • This is a pre-order bonus track from American R&B and pop singer Beyoncé's third studio album, I Am...Sasha Fierce. The song was co-written by Beyoncé her sister Solange Knowles, together with the American record production, songwriting, and artist trio Bama Boyz, who have previously supplied several re-mixes for the Texan singer.
  • The song peaked at #1 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
  • The '50s-styled video was co-directed by Melina Matsoukas (Eve, Rihanna, Ne-Yo) and Beyoncé and stars the Texan singer as "B.B. Homemaker."
  • The Bama Boyz already had a connection with Solange Knowles having produced "ChampagneChroniKnightCap" and "Valentine's Day" on her Sol-Angel And The Hadley Street Dreams album. So it was no surprise that Houston-based electro trio were asked by Solange to put instrumentals together for her to write to for her sister. However, the Bamaz almost purposely left the music for this song out. "We didn't think it sounded anything like what Beyoncé was recording at the time but we put it in the email anyway just because we knew Solange likes weird records," said Bama Boy Jesse J. Rankins jokingly on the AntiMusic site. "But we made sure to send it last!"
Out of all the attempts the boyz sent to Solange, she chose this funk-pop track and went ahead and wrote the song. Bama Boy Jonathan D. Wells commented: "When we heard Solange's demo, we were excited because that track was more our true sound than any of the others [sent], but we still kinda didn't believe Beyoncé would cut it... but we hoped!"
  • This was the 9th consecutive single off I Am... Sasha Fierce to peak within the top 75 of the UK singles charts. This meant that Beyoncé became the first female artist to have nine top 75 UK hits off one album. Michael Jackson is the only other Artist to achieve this feat having taken nine hits off both Bad (1987) and Dangerous (1991).
