Songfacts®:

  • In a radio interview in her native New Zealand, the lady herself said this is a song about not having a day job. This was obviously a tongue-in-cheek reference to her personal life. "The Daily Grind" was released in November 2008. Her son was born the previous year, and she had taken some time off touring to combine motherly duties with songwriting. Performed unaccompanied with just an acoustic guitar, this is the folky side of Bic, and none the less endearing for that. >>>
