Songfacts®:

  • This song features both an unusual time signature and a traditional mariachi band. Vocalist Simon Neil admitted to The Sun: "I'm not sure we could have ever done it before. It's a reflection of where we are now. That song is so different to anything we've ever done before. We're not afraid of trying things."
  • Neil explained the song's meaning to Kerrang! magazine: "It's about trying to deal with my own faults and kind of say, 'Look, I love everyone around me, I think there's nothing more important than friendship and everyone being together.' The mariachi vibe here really suit's the song. It's about feeling like you want to let things go but pleading with people to pull through it together."
  • Simon Neil told NME: "This is our mariachi space-rock jam. It was interesting trying to get Mexican mariachi players to play in a 5/4 rhythm. It took us about five hours and lots of tequila. They were finally flying by the end of the night and it was a slow slog but worth every second."
  • The song was arranged by Beck's father David Campbell (Rush, Evanescence, Metallica, My Chemical Romance).
