  • Writing It feels good to be writing again
Clear water flows from my pen
And it sure feels good to be writing again

Bill Callahan experienced seismic shifts in the five-and-a-half years between his Have Fun With God and Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest albums. They included marriage, fatherhood, and losing his mother. Here, he pays tribute to the gift of songwriting. Callahan told Mojo magazine:

"It's like when your body is functioning correctly. When you're sick and you can't do the things that you normally do but then do get better, like it's almost worth being sick. You feel like you're 100 times better than you ever been because you went through the sickness. I think that writing successfully is like getting over a sickness."
