Songfacts®:

  • Birdy penned this song about the dying days of a relationship herself. It is the only track on her eponymous debut album that isn't a cover.
  • Birdy was just 15-years-old when the album was released. So how does she balance her recording career with leading the life of a teenager? She told Billboard magazine: "Although switching between school life and my music career is sometimes very strange it's never been too difficult for me and I'm never left having to catch up with heaps of work. The change has started to become normal and I have begun to find the balance."
  • The music video, which shows two lovers struggling to make their relationship work, was filmed on Brick Lane in East London.
  • The song was inspired by a tale told to Birdy by her author father, Rupert van den Bogaerde. She told MTV News: "It was from a story my dad told me about — he's a writer — it was a story about a couple who really loved each other but one of them had to leave. There's a little bit more to the story," she added, grinning, "but it's kind of about that, inspired by that."
