Songfacts®:

  • BCC guitarist Joe Bonamassa was born and raised in New Hartford, New York. His parents owned and ran a guitar shop and in interviews he credits his mother and father with fostering an appreciation of music in his life as early as he can remember. He penned this bluesy tribute to his upbringing for BCC's second album 2. Vocalist Glen Hughes told Musicradar.com: "Having met Joe's mother and father, this song completely brings me to tears. When he talks about survival, giving thanks to his parents for the life they gave him and being grateful for the food from the table, it's so sad...and it's so beautiful. If I were Joe's dad, I'd be bawling my eyes out on this song. Joe's very coy about it, but the truth of the matter is, he's an amazing songwriter, such a gifted songsmith. This is a very old type of song, an ode to one's parents. And the funny thing is, Joe's told me it's not about his parents, but I know it is. But don't tell him I told you so. Wink-wink." [laughs]
