Songfacts®:

  • The closing song of Black Stone Cherry's sixth album, this is also the record's title track. Guitarist Ben Wells explained why they named the LP after this tune.

"Our band is very close. We started in 2001. We went to school together and we've always been very close. Our families at home are very close as well. So, growing up, our parents would drive us to practice and drive us to shows, give us money for guitar strings. All of us are married. Three of the other guys have kids. My wife and I have two dogs that might as well be kids. [Laughs]"
  • HMV.com asked drummer John Fred Young when they decided on Family Tree for the album title. He replied:

"We had the song and we thought it was very fitting. We're not old by any means, but we're not green anymore. We're becoming seasoned. We've all got kids. The longer we play together the closer we get as brothers, so it reflected that. I can't remember there being any other titles, it solidified pretty quickly. It's a great album closer too."
