Songfacts®:

  • Black Stone Cherry is an American rock band formed in 2001 in Edmonton, Kentucky consisting of lead singer and guitarist Chris Robertson, rhythm guitarist Ben Wells, bass guitarist Jon Lawhon and drummer John Fred Young. After signing with Roadrunner Records they released their eponymous debut album on July 18, 2006. Their third studio album, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, got an unexpected early release on the bittorrent tracker, Demonoid on May 27, 2011 due to an employee error at an unspecified Walmart. The official release date was May 31, 2011.
  • Despite earning the band widespread acclaim Black Stone Cherry didn't really know what to do with the song until producer Howard Benson stepped in. Young explained to Rock AAA: "We didn't want to record that song as we had it too fast. It sounded almost corny but we couldn't figure out why as we knew it had a hook and a good melody but Howard just told us to slow it down. It worked really well and he spotted something really simple that us as musicians had overlooked."
  • Young explained the song's meaning to Rock AAA: "The song is actually about a Trans Am that Chris (Robertson) had. It was the same kind of Trans Am that was in the Smokey and the Bandit movies and he had it for a few months before he sold it. That's actually what the song is about. Everybody around the world has a little bit of trash in them and it's just a fun song with us being ourselves."
