Songfacts®:

  • Candice Night met Ritchie Blackmore in 1989, when she was just 18 years old. They began their relationship two years later, but it was not until 1997 that she was launched properly as an artiste in her own right, even though she had worked alongside her future husband with both Deep Purple and Rainbow.

With the album Shadow of the Moon she went from backing singer to one half of a duo with potential but an uncertain future. And she did not disappoint. The album was released in Europe on June 2, 1997, and the eponymous opening track with music by Ritchie and lyrics by herself is a wonderful portent of what was to come. Not only does Candice look like an angel, she sings like one; running to 5 minutes 6 seconds, this lachrymose acoustic ballad with heavy production was the perfect way to introduce her to the wider world. >>>
