Songfacts®:

  • Mark Hoppus, blink-182's bass player, wrote this profanity-laced Christmas greeting on a break from late-night gift wrapping. "This song is the one that really pisses your parents off," he admitted in a 2001 tour program. "I wrote this song on Christmas Eve, because I was way behind on wrapping presents, and rather then take care of the problem, I picked up a guitar and wrote a f--ked up song about it. I finished wrapping them at about 3 in the morning."
  • This was featured on blink-182's fourth studio album, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, which was released in June 2001.
  • This wasn't the first holiday offering from blink-182. Back in 1997, when drummer Scott Raynor was still with the band, the trio released "I Won't Be Home For Christmas," a punk parody of the yuletide standard "I'll Be Home for Christmas." MCA re-issued it as a single in 2001, and it went to #1 in Canada.
  • Because off its off-color lyrics, which has Hoppus angrily demanding sexual favors from his gift recipient's parents, the clean version of the tune, re-titled "Happy Holidays," is mostly instrumental except for the closing line, "I'll never talk to you again."
