Songfacts®:

  • This is the opening track of Bombay Bicycle Club's So Long, See You Tomorrow album, which was penned by the band's frontman Jack Steadman while traveling through India, Turkey, Europe and Tokyo. Steadman's trip to the Indian city of Mumbai had a huge influence on this track, which features a Bollywood sample of "Apne Pyar Ke Sapne" by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. He told NME: "Before I go away I'd spend loads of time loading up my iPod so I've got a good soundtrack for where I'm going.' Apne Pyar Ke Sapne' came up on shuffle one day, which gave me the idea for 'Overdone.'"

"You might think it would be difficult to apply a Bollywood sample to our music, but there's so much melody in a Bollywood song you can apply it to anything, they're incredible pop songs," Steadman continued. "On the first demo of 'Overdone' there was this sample with a massive hip-hop beat underneath it. I called it 'Hindustanye West.'"
  • This was one of three tracks on So Long, See You Tomorrow to feature guest vocalist Rae Morris. The Blackpool singer and pianist filled in for the band's regular collaborator, Lucy Rose, whilst she was on tour. Steadman told NME: "Writing for female voices is like writing for a new instrument. Rae has shots a different voice to Lucy, really powerful, so that was like having another tool to. I'll try to sing something I've written and it won't sound good, so I realise it's meant for Rae; she'll turn up and it will be brilliant."
