Songfacts®:

  • This mid-tempo rock ballad is the first single by American rock band Bon Jovi, from their Greatest Hits album. It is one of four new songs that were written specifically for the compilation project.
  • The song was released on the band's official website on August 27, 2010.
  • This song was started during The Circle sessions but didn't fit the album and was finished for Greatest Hits.
  • Jon Bon Jovi told Billboard magazine that he was surprised that this got the nod to be the first single and he actually favored "No Apologies." "I said, 'If anyone wants to pick a single, you tell me. What do I know?'" recalled the singer. "That was the one that floated to the top, and I was taken aback because it was the (last) of the five I would've picked. But people have really been relating to the lyric, and seemingly for... radio, it's a hit."
  • Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits album is the fourth the band have produced in their lifetime. This record is a result of an agreement between Jon Bon Jovi and his record company, whereby Universal boss Lucian Grainge allowed Jon Bon Jovi to cut Lost Highway, his potentially loss-making 2007 Nashville album in return for allowing another compilation. "I rang him and said: 'I want to do this,'" explained Bon Jovi to The Observer. "There was silence on the phone, and then: 'I guess at this point you can do whatever you please, but… would you do me a favour when you lose all my money and give me a Greatest Hits?' I said: 'You got it – that's a deal.'"
