Songfacts®:

  • Brandy Clark sings explained to The Guardian that this track is about a woman who's "a mom and a dad and a taxi driver and when the baby's sick she's an up-all-nighter, a hand, a shoulder and a referee – a real-life hero if you ask me."
  • Brandy Clark wrote this song about a single mom with Lori McKenna. Clark explained how McKenna brought an idea to their session based on a video she had watched of her on YouTube. She explained in a Genius attribution:

"I was setting up a song from my first record, 'Pray To Jesus,' and in the video I was talking about the woman that inspired the song. I said, 'she had five kids and no husband.' And that really hit Lori—maybe because she has five kids (she also has a husband). She said, 'I think this would be a great song—I don't think it should be five kids, but maybe three?'"
