Songfacts®:

  • Brantley Gilbert wrote the song with Jaida Dreyer, Josh Mirenda and Justin Weaver. Together, they spin a tale about the singer taking his love interest for a drive in his car. Under the hood, it has been good to him for years, but tonight he hopes his vehicle breaks down so he can be alone with the girl.
  • The car that has been good to Gilbert in this song is his 1968 Mercury Cougar. The singer admitted to Taste of Country that he's not being entirely truthful, as he's put $100,000 into keeping the vehicle going.

"Everything in that car is brand new," he said. "It's just a shell of what it used to be and it's still a pain in the ass." Gilbert says his mechanic calls the car "Christine's sister," a reference to the Stephen King horror story about an evil Plymouth.
