Songfacts®:

  • This song is about meeting different people in life and how as time goes on, people disappear from your life, even friends and lovers you've known for years. As guitarist James Griffin said, "The whole thing was about how pieces of your life start falling away as time goes on."
  • Griffin wrote this with fellow Bread member Robb Royer and Tim Hallinan, who was a member of Royer's original band Pleasure Faire. Hallinan would later go on to become a successful mystery novelist.
  • Bread didn't have an official drummer when they recorded this album, so they hired prominent session man Jim Gordon, who went on to play with Derek and the Dominos. Gordon suffered from mental problems, and in 1983 he killed his mother. >>>
