Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Brett Young's second album, Ticket to L.A., "Here Tonight" finds the California native so enveloped in his love for his lady that nothing else matters.

We can just stay here in this minute
    Lose all track of time
Let the world spin on without us for a while
I'm telling you, we're just one kiss away from heaven
    So baby, hold on tight
'Cause I want to get wrapped up in your love
So baby, let's just stay here tonight

Young said: "'Here Tonight' is about those moments, if you're lucky enough to have them in your life, that are so good that you wish they could last forever."
  • "Here Tonight" was written by Young along with Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley, Ben Caver and Justin Ebach. The singer was on a writing weekend with Caver and Ebach when Kelley volunteered his services. He recalled to The Boot:

"I didn't even have to ask Charles. A couple weeks before, we'd gone golfing, and he found out what a bad golfer I was. I had two writers - Justin Ebach and Ben Caver - out for the weekend, and we were in the catering tent at lunchtime. Anyone who knows Charles' personality, he walked right up and was like, 'Y'all out here writing this weekend?' And they said, 'Yeah.' And he goes, 'I wanna write, too.'"

Over the course of the weekend, the quartet penned three songs, including "Here Tonight."
  • Brett Young wasn't convinced at first that "Here Tonight" was going to land on Ticket to L.A.

"I wasn't sure this one was mine," the singer told ABC Radio. "And then Charles sang the demo vocal on it, and listening back to him sing it, I was... really intimidated to try to sing it... because Charles is such a great singer. But... listening to it, it really did feel like me and I thought I did want it for my record."
  • Brett Young and his co-writers had a specific aim for "Here Tonight." The singer explained to ABC Radio: "We wanted to write a song about living in the moment and trying to enjoy what is happening, while it's happening."
