Songfacts®:

  • "Strangers" came out of a LA writing trip undertaken by Bring Me The Horizon frontman Oliver Sykes. When one songwriter came up with the lyric "we're just a room full of strangers," it took on a huge double meaning.

We're just a room full of strangers
Looking for something to save us

Sykes imagines performing this song to a crowd "of strangers connecting on this mad level."

Alone together, we're dying to live and we're living to die

He also likens the "room full of strangers" to rehab. "Coming out of lockdown and the pandemic, everyone is recovering from something and I'm so aware that so many people struggle daily with differing traumas, and just wanted to stress that they're not in this alone," he said. "We're a community here to help each other."
  • Oli Sykes debuted "Strangers" in a DJ set at their Bring Me The Horizon & Friends festival in Malta on May 26, 2022. Revealing "Strangers" is "about family," he added, "Right now, we're all a room full of strangers. We don't know each other and it don't f---ing matter cause we're all here for the same f---ing reason, right?"
  • Sykes, BMTH keyboardist Jordan Fish and guitarist Lee Malia wrote the song with BloodPop and Caroline Ailin.

American musician BloodPop has written and produced songs for Justin Bieber ("Sorry," "Friends") and Lady Gaga ("Stupid Love," "Rain On Me").

Norwegian songwriter Caroline Ailin's other credits include songs by Dua Lipa ("New Rules" and "Don't Start Now") and Sigrid ("Mirror," "Burning Bridges"). Bring Me The Horizon's connection with Ailin may have come through Sigrid, when they teamed up for her "Bad Life" single.
