The title track to Britney Spears' triumphant second album, "Oops... I Did It Again" has a very appropriate title. The song was written by Max Martin, a Swedish producer who also wrote Britney's first hit, "...Baby One More Time," which sounds very similar.
Spears took on a racier image when she released this song. She was just 16 when the "...Baby One More Time" single was released, but she was 19 for "Oops," allowing her to be marketed more suggestively. The video plays up her sexuality, and the line "I'm not that innocent" made many listeners question her claim that she was a virgin.
What's the "oops"? Britney has once again broken a heart. She can't help it that guys keep falling in love with her.
There is a break of dialogue in the song where Britney receives a necklace and says, "But I thought the old lady dropped it into the ocean in the end?" According to songwriter Max Martin, this is a little inside joke about the box office smash movie Titanic.
Following her debut album, there was huge anticipation for Spears' next release, not just for the music but for the image she would present. This song answered those questions, showing that musically she would stick to the same script, but would get a bit more adult in terms of image. The Oops... I Did It Again album wasn't as successful as her first, but it still sold a remarkable 10 million copies in America, earning a Diamond certification. This made her the only female artist to go Diamond with her first two albums, a record that is likely to stand as album sales in general started to decline in the early '00s.
The video, which features Spears in a red-latex catsuit, was directed by Nigel Dick, who helmed several of Britney's early promos, including the one for "…Baby One More Time." He recalled that the pitch Spears gave him had one particular specification. "'I want to be in a red jumpsuit. I want to have a really cute spaceman, but there can't be any rockets,'" Dick said. "There was another catsuit, actually, which was fantastic, which I loved, and the night before, I was told that Britney hired this guy that worked with Michael Jackson, and so we're going to use that catsuit. So that's the catsuit."

The astronaut was played by Eli Swanson, who later became an orthopedic trauma surgeon.
A record 155 radio stations added this song to their playlists the first week it was released. This reflects the hype surrounding the single.
This started an "oops" trend in pop. The following year, Blu Cantrell had a hit with "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)." In 2002, Tweet went to #7 US with "Oops (Oh My)."
Spears performed "Oops..." and her cover of the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" as a two-song medley in a nearly nude bra and matching pants at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, which shocked audiences and introduced a new image of Britney. Parents and media questioned Spears' breakout striptease, to which she replied: "I just wanted to look really sparkly and fun. I'm not the kids' parents I can't tell them what to do I just go up and do my own thing."
In the 2002 movie Austin Powers: Goldmember, Austin blows up Britney and says, "Oops, I did it again."
Spears needed four stitches in her head after she was injured during the video shoot. It happened in a scene where she was lying on the floor and a camera that was trying to get an overhead shot fell on her. Oops.

She finished the shoot after getting stitched up.
A radio station in Scranton, Pennsylvania did a parody of this song called "Oops... They Deflated Again," which made fun of the rumors that Spears got breast implants.

AnonymousSince the video from beginning to end shows Mars as a fake place obviously, the old lady throwing it into the bottom of the ocean and the astronaut going down to get it, is talking about the Telemetry data from the fake moon landing which they destroyed. And even if found, they shouldn't have. Because they want it to be missing and remained missing. Watch right after the videos when britney tells him that he shouldn't have, for a split second there's a small Globe behind Britney's had before she says oops I Did It Again. Which I think is another way of hiding in plain sight that they destroyed the Telemetry data because Oops they fooled us again with all their fake space BS
