Songfacts®:

  • Broods are a New Zealand brother and sister duo, Georgia and Caleb Nott. This debut single finds them linking up with Lorde's soundscaper Joel Little. The pair originally met the producer after being discovered in a musical competition when they were still in high school. Little helped the siblings experiment with their sound in between periods of work on Lorde's first album. "When we first started out, we didn't know who the hell we were as a band," Caleb told Billboard magazine. "Even though [Joel] has been pretty busy, it's been good to have him there as a well-informed opinion, and to help us out whenever we need him."
  • The song finds Georgia murmuring about burning bridges and sinking or swimming over an osculating Alt-Pop arrangement. She told Billboard magazine that she came up with the concept for song while lying in bed one night and Little polished what was a "really average demo."
  • The video was shot around Castaic Lake in the Sierra Pelona Mountains of California by director Dori Oskowitz (Nickelback's "Rockstar," Kesha's "Take It Off" and Passion Pit's "Constant Conversations")
