Songfacts®:

  • Bruce Sudano, known for his '70s band Brooklyn Dreams, became very prolific musically when the pandemic hit in 2020. "In Shadowland," recorded at his home studio in Milan, Italy, is the first release from this album Ode To A Nightingale. He says of the song:

"I'm referencing the inner voice that connects us with things beyond the veil. The mysterious wonder of what was before and what comes after, the spark of life within us, the calling. And the more you listen, the more you hear, the more you follow the more you see. Hopefully, your faith gets stronger and your hope grows as you live life with a sense of something more, something greater, a through line from here to there. It gives a sense of purpose mixed with some kind of destiny. It's really how I live my life."
  • The music video stars the Italian actress Maria Roveran, who goes searching for something while carrying a phone with Sudano singing this song. She enters a field and generates some kind of particle system that forms in the sky. The theme is mystery, and the plot is open to interpretation.

The video was directed by the visual artist Furio Ganz, with digital effects by Claudio Bellini.
  • Randy Ray Mitchell, who often worked with Donna Summer (to whom Sudano was married from 1980 until her death in 2012), produced this track and played electric guitar. Kevin McCormick played bass and James Cruce was the drummer.
