Songfacts®:

  • "Body to Body" is the opening track on BTS' 2026 album Arirang. It sets the tone for an album built around the tension between BTS's global reach and their Korean cultural roots.

Despite sounding like it might be about romance (or at the very least a crowded elevator), "Body To Body" is about the relationship between BTS and their fans, known collectively as ARMY. BTS center on the irreplaceable power of physical togetherness: being in a stadium, putting phones down, and surrendering to the moment. The recurring phrase "body to body" speaks to what no screen can replicate, the collective energy of live performance. Given that BTS have been separated from ARMY by military service for nearly three years, the theme carries added weight.
  • The Picard Brothers, Diplo, Ryan Tedder, and BTS' longtime in-house producer Pdogg produced "Body to Body." The songwriting credits extend to Ryan Tedder, Maxime Picard, Diplo, Akira Evans (Akira Akira), Teezo Touchdown, Pdogg, and BTS members RM, Suga, and J-Hope.

The Picard Brothers are a French duo known for polished, radio-ready pop production. Their credits include Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus' "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart" and Dua Lipa's "Dance The Night."

Diplo is the American DJ and producer behind Major Lazer; he is credited across five tracks on Arirang.

Ryan Tedder is the OneRepublic frontman who has produced hits for the likes of Beyonce and Tate McRae; he is credited on four album tracks.

Pdogg is BTS' principal in-house collaborator, credited on 10 tracks across the album. He has been the architectural spine of BTS' sound since their debut.
  • At 2:25 into the track, the contemporary production gives way to a pansori-style performance of the traditional Korean folk melody "Arirang," accompanied by Korean percussion, before fading back out again. The beat gradually shifts from electric to acoustic for that passage, linking BTS' modern global sound to a tradition over 600 years old. The album's very title is drawn from this folk song, a melody about longing, sorrow, and the resilience of the Korean people, and "Body to Body" plants that flag right at the start.
  • As the album opener, "Body to Body" functions as a mission statement. It establishes the album's central tension: modern versus traditional, global versus local; while also sneaking in a rather moving point about human connection. Track 7, "Swim," is designated as the lead single, but "Body To Body" is the moment the lights go down, the crowd roars, and for a few minutes at least, everyone is exactly where they're supposed to be.
  • In addition to "Body to Body," Diplo also worked on the tracks "FYA," "One More Night," "Like Animals" and "Into the Sun" on Arirang.

"I was in Conway studios with them for about two months in and out in LA., but we did a lot of prep work, Diplo told Billboard's Hot 100 Show. "We did a lot of music for them, almost like 80 tracks to kind of whittle down, and then just working with the personalities, figuring out what the idea was for them to come back."

Diplo noted how involved BTS were in shaping the record, with members contributing ideas, concepts, and writing throughout. He reflected on just how hands-on the band were in crafting their sound, even venturing into directions that surprised him.
