Songfacts®:

  • BTS is a seven-member South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment in 2013. The members are:

    Jin (born Kim Seok-jin)
    Suga (born Min Yoon-gi)
    J-Hope (born Jung Ho-seok)
    Rap Monster (born Kim Nam-joon)
    Jimin (born Park Ji-min)
    V (born Kim Tae-hyung)
    Jungkook (born Jeon Jeong-guk)
  • The group's name BTS is an acronym for the Korean expression Bangtan Sonyeondan, literally meaning "Bulletproof Boy Scouts." They later expanded its meaning to stand for "Beyond the Scene."
  • This trap-infused track was released as the lead single from BTS' fifth EP, Love Yourself: Her. The almost-all Korean-language song contains a flow of science references, which act as a metaphor for a romantic connection.
  • DNA is a complex two-stranded molecule that contains, in chemically coded form, all the information needed to build, control and maintain living organisms.

Other artists that have recorded songs titled after the informational molecule include Little Mix, Empire of the Sun and Kendrick Lamar.
  • The song became the boy band's first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 when it debuted at #85 on the listing dated October 7, 2017. BTS were just the second K-pop act to chart a Korean-language song on the Hot 100, following PSY, whose entries included the hit singles "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman."

Other K-pop acts such as Wonder Girls and CL have also charted, but not with predominantly Korean-language songs.
  • Love Yourself: Her debuted at #7 on the US Billboard 200, making BTS the first-ever K-pop act to reach the top ten of the US album chart. BTS were also the first Asian artist in seven years to debut within the top ten of the listing. The previous one to do so was Filipino singer Charice whose self-titled American debut album, opened at #8 in 2010.
