Songfacts®:

  • Confessions is the sixth album by the American rock band Buckcherry and is based around a central theme of the seven deadly sins. The classification of vices has been used since the early times of the church to educate and instruct Christians concerning fallen humanity's tendency to sin. In the currently recognized version, the sins are usually listed as wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. In almost every list, pride is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and the source of the others.
  • Buckcherry vocalist Josh Todd told Heavy Metal Artwork that he likes to tell stories with his lyrics. "You know some songs are just short stories," he said. "You're trying to capture some emotion in a certain type of song. You know I was always a big fan of Jim Morrison, of turning poetry into songs."

"There's a song on the record called 'Pride' that got to be almost like spoken word in the verses which is something I've been wanting to do for a long time," he added. "I read a lot of books so I kind of enhance my lyric writing and I'm a huge fan of novels, and how somebody can take five hundred pages and make it interesting. How someone can write something that can change you forever. That, to me, is crazy, y'know? Songs are much easier as they're not that long, but you try to take people on a journey."
  • Todd explained this song's meaning to Heavy Metal Artwork: "It's about being found out in a way," he said. "Being exposed, being vulnerable and letting everyone know your most honest, purest thought even if it's negative or shi--y. It's about wanting to end it all because you don't want to live with secrets or to put up a certain appearance."
