Songfacts®:

  • Buckcherry lead singer/lyricist Josh Todd explained the song in publicity materials for All Night Long: "I've been off drugs for 15 years now, and I'm always in a state of recovery. I live there. 'Recovery' is just about the people who really want to suck up your energy and destroy you when you're in a good way. It's a song about breaking away from the pack."
  • Guitarist Keith Nelson told the story behind the song's instrumentation: "Stevie (D, rhythm guitar) had that funky little verse lick, and I had the chorus part that rocked. We kind of smashed those together, and came up with that trippy midsection and a couple of guitar solos."
