Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Black and White Rainbows, "Mad Love" was released on February 6, 2017. It was the first Bush album to be made available after Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale divorced No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani after 14 years of marriage. The album title reflects Rossdale's new start. He explained to UK newspaper The Daily Star: "The title is poetic. Think of the cocoon phase of a butterfly, or the phoenix rising from the ashes. Each end is also a beginning."
  • This makeup song finds Rossdale singing:

Still got mad love for you, baby
Every day you find ways to drive me crazy

He revealed the song is "about forgiveness," adding: "To find each other again. Every song I write is a bit about Gwen. She will always be my muse and I will be inspired by her whether we like it or not. And I will always love her, she is the mother of my children."
  • The song had its live television premiere performance on the UK version of the singing reality show The Voice where Gavin Rossdale was serving as a coach along with will.i.am, Tom Jones and Jennifer Hudson.
  • Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Rossdale said of the song: "It's about a struggling pair, and there's so much between them. I wanted a song where someone just winds you up so extremely that you're driven crazy by them in the short term, but ultimately you just want to be with them. I mean, nothing beats make-up kisses, you know?"
