  • Calexico frontman Joey Burns told The Sun the story behind this song: "I asked my friend Pieta Brown to e-mail me some lyrics," he said, "and there was one tune that called to me, When the Angels Played."

    "One morning I woke up from a surreal nightmare and started strumming these chords and coming this melody out in a court yard, beneath a massive ash tree that was named Goyo," he continued. "I walked into the home studio and without saying anything to John (Convertino, percussion) recorded this track."
