Songfacts®:

  • This ten-minute track was a last-minute addition to Ege Bamyasi. Keyboardist Irmin Schmidt recalled to Uncut in 2016: "We'd found out the record was too short; it needed 10 more minutes of music, but by the next morning, so we wrote, played and recorded it the night before. No editing!"

Bassist Holger Czukay added: "'Soup' is my favourite track (on Ege Bamyasi). In its various ingredients, including electronics and avant-garde, it is indeed like a soup."
