• The first single from Carly Rae Jepsen's third studio album, the Canadian penned the song with producer Peter Svensson. Former Cardigans guitarist Peter Svensson's other credits include Avril Lavigne's "Rock N Roll," Emblem3's "Chloe (You're The One I Want)" and One Direction's "Rock Me." Jepsen's manager, Scooter Braun, revealed to Billboard magazine: "I told her that she couldn't come out with anything unless it was on the level of 'Call Me Maybe.' And, now we have a new one that is on that level."
• Like "Call Me Maybe," this song finds Jepsen flirting with a boy, but this time they are already together. Said the Canadian singer. "Lyrically, it's about that time in a relationship when it's too soon to say 'I love you,' but you're well past, 'I like you' and you're at the 'I really, really like you' stage."
• Jepsen performed the song for the first time during the March 2, 2015 edition of Good Morning America.
• The music video was filmed on February 16, 2015 in New York City with Justin Bieber and Tom Hanks. "It's a great combo," Jepsen said of her co-stars during her appearance on Good Morning America. "We love the idea of Tom taking over for our video and Justin was in town and he was like, 'I'm going to come down' and I'm like, 'You should — The more the merrier."
  
  The video follows Hanks throughout the course of the day. "I had this concept that because the song was so sweet and kind of adorable, I wanted the video to be really funny, and so I had a vision of a Wes Anderson type of direction where a guy sang it– somebody unexpected," Jepsen told MTV News. "And Scooter [Braun] is friends with Tom and he was telling him how I'd been kind of politely stalking characters, being like 'do you want to be in my video?' And over dinner Tom was like, 'why didn't you guys ask me?' So he kind of volunteered himself on the coldest day of New York winter."
  
  Hanks told E! News that he agreed to make the video without knowing who it was for, "I didn't know it was Carly Rae Jepsen. They were like, 'Would you like to do Carly's video?' And I said, 'Yeah, sure!' And then I found out later the whole name."
  
  "She's a nice girl.," he added "We had a good time."
• The song picked up some heat after a parody video featuring Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Ariana Grande, Rixton and many others singing along to the song was uploaded to YouTube on April 14, 2015. The visual was a homage to the lip-sync clip that Jepsen did with Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale, which had done much to promote "Call Me Maybe."
