Songfacts®:

  • This was the first single for both Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice. Underwood was the Season 4 winner of American Idol, and Bice was the runner-up. Underwood's version was released on June 14, 2005, where it went to #1 in the US and Canada. Bice's version was released a week later, and went to #2 in the US. The B-side of Underwood's version was a cover of the Martina McBride song "Independence Day," while Bice had the Ides Of March song "Vehicle" as the flip side.
  • This was written by the Swedish songwriters Andreas Carlsson, Pelle Nylén and Savan Kotecha, and produced by Desmond Child. The song is about wanting to be with someone all the time and never let them go. >>>

  • Underwood and Bice each performed this song on American Idol and were judged on their performances. This was common practice on the show: the previous year Fantasia and Diana DeGarmo each did "I Believe," and when Fantasia won, it was released as her first single, which debuted at #1.

When Underwood hit the top with "Inside Your Heaven," she became the fourth Idol contestant to hit #1 with a debut single. Kelly Clarkson started it all with "A Moment Like This," and the following year, it was runner-up Clay Aiken who reached the top spot with "This Is The Night." Taylor Hicks made it five in a row with "Do I Make You Proud?" in 2006.
  • Savan Kotecha went on to become a successful songwriter, co-penning hits for the likes of One Direction ("What Makes You Beautiful"), The Weeknd ("Can't Feel My Face") and Maroon 5 ("One More Night"). However at the time this song came out, he was literally eating beans out of a can. Kotecha recalled in an interview with Music Business Worldwide:

"I remember when Carrie Underwood performed my song on American Idol and it went to #1, I was watching it in Sweden – where I was living at the time. I was streaming it on a computer live while eating beans out of can. That was all I could afford for dinner. I wouldn't want my kids to go through that."
  • Underwood proved she had crossover appeal with her debut album, which peaked at #2 on the US albums chart, and hit the Hot 100 with four of its five singles. In the US, it was the best-selling album of 2006 across all genres and was the best-selling female country album for three consecutive years.
