Songfacts®:

  • "Somewhere That's Green" is a love song from the musical adaptation of The Little Shop Of Horrors. Like the rest of the show it was written by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken, and is sung in the 1986 film version by Ellen Greene as shop assistant Audrey Fulquard. (Audrey's boyfriend is the sadistic Orin who sings the song "Dentist!" and is eventually fed to the man-eating plant at the center of the story). Although like many battered women, Audrey is psychologically dependent on her lover - broken limbs and all - she dreams of "somewhere that's green" where she lives in marital bliss with her co-worker Seymour. >>
