Songfacts®:

  • Fraser T Smith's songwriting session with a tired, homesick Cee-Lo Green was going nowhere until the singer mentioned his love for Spandau Ballet's "Gold," which features prominent drums. "Literally the last attempt was to get the congas out," Smith recalled to Q magazine. "I'd never played congas before. Being honest and saying, I'm not too sure about this, let's try something fresh, is the best way of doing it. It turned the session around and resulted in the breezy retro soul of this song."
