Songfacts®:

  • If there's one thing that Central Cee and Dave want you to know, it's that success - real, lasting, properly earned success - doesn't happen overnight. So "CRG" (Can't Rush Greatness) is an introspective meditation on their journey from hustling sweets in school corridors to living out the kind of lifestyle that involves designer shopping sprees and casual dalliances with the rich and famous.
  • "CRG" marks the fifth time the pair have teamed up, following their Split Decision four track EP, which spawned the chart-topping "Sprinter," a track that in the UK became the anthem of the summer 2023. The mutual respect between them runs deep; Dave produced "End of the Beginning" for Central Cee's 2022 mixtape 23, and Cee namechecked Dave as one of his inspirations on his 2022 track "Ungrateful."
  • "CRG" is also the title track of Central Cee's debut album, Can't Rush Greatness. The rapper has used the term "can't rush greatness" multiple times throughout his career. Cench first popularized this phrase during his "Mad About Bars" freestyle in 2020, where he emphasized the idea of taking time to develop one's craft and not rushing the process. The phrase reflects his journey and the importance of patience in achieving success.
  • PALE1080, Blindforlove, Frank Moses and Arthur Bean created the atmospheric soundscape, which provides a fitting backdrop for Cench and Dave's introspective lyrics.

Arthur Bean is the only one among the four producers with other Central Cee credits. He also helped produce the Can't Rush Greatness tracks "Up North" and "Walk in Wardrobe."

Paris producer PALE1080 also produced Rylo Rodriguez's "Right Here," and Blindforlove and Frank Moses previously teamed up for Lil Tjay's "No No."
