Songfacts®:

  • The title of the French actress/singer's third album, IRM derives from MRI tests Gainsbourg underwent after nearly dying from a brain hemorrhage in 2007. The record is a collaboration with American musician Beck, who penned the line "Drill my head full of holes to let the memories come out" for this song. Surprisingly, Beck was at the time unaware of Gainsbourg's near-death experience. She told Mojo magazine March 2010: "He didn't know that I had been through surgery, and that I do in fact have a hole in my head, when he wrote that. It was a funny coincidence."
