Songfacts®:

  • Chris and Kem are Love Island stars Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay. Following on from a live rap collaboration with Stormzy on stage at the 2017 V Festival, the reality TV duo made their recording debut with this cut, which makes evident their love of grime.
  • The song was produced by Z Dot who has also worked on tracks for the likes of Stormzy, Wiley and Professor Green.
  • One person who isn't so thrilled about Chris and Kem's attempts at starting a rap career is grime legend Lethal Bizzle, who accused the pair of stealing his catchphrase.

He told Chris and Kem they "need to have a conversation" after he said they used his phrase 'Leave it', without permission. In 2011 Lethal released a track called "Leave It Yeah," which has since become one of his well-known phrases. He commented:

"I wasn't even bothered about it to be honest with you, it's the people that made me realise like, 'Rah, Bizz, are you getting a percentage out of this?'

I don't need the money but the principle is you're taking the piss, and you're not even crediting [me]... You're using it like you lot made it popular."

Lethal added later on Twitter that he was asked by the label to feature on the song and turned it down - but "didn't know or hear" about the "leave it" lyric.
