Songfacts®:

  • Chris Stapleton wrote this with Jim Beavers (Luke Bryan's "Drink a Beer," Toby Keith's "Red Solo Cup"). He recalled: "I had a dream and woke up with the lyrics 'you only need a roof when it's raining…' rolling around in my head. Didn't really know what they meant. I liked the sound of it though.

When I got together with my friend Jim Beavers that day, I walked in the room he was playing music that was clearly meant for the lyrics I had dreamt. It seemed the two were meant to meet that day. Some days are luckier than others."
  • This is the favorite song on Traveller of Chris Stapleton's children. The singer's wife Morgane described to American Songwriter their son and daughter dancing to the tune as, "running in circles and using chairs and couches as a jungle gym."

  • Wallace Crossley from Mountain Home, Texas If you haven't heard a Chris Stapleton concert, you haven't lived, he just knocks it out of the park.
  • The Dan from Ptk ScotlandPretty good tune!
  • Jo from EarthBrilliant piece of work. I'm completely biased & admit to being overwhelmed emotionally by this track. It holds a very deep meaning to me. This song perfectly describes everything I ever wanted to be for my late wife. Chris did a great job here of capturing the way it feels to never want a loved 1 to feel uncomfortable or sad. When your greatest pleasure in life is providing comfort & love to someone so loved you finally felt complete when you found them. Thank you Mr. Stapleton & God Bless Blondie Bond.
