Songfacts®:

  • A rare gentle ballad for Chvrches, this stark, grief-stricken song finds a vulnerable Lauren Mayberry opening up to the world about a relationship that's gone toxic.

I can never tell what you want
Even with time, you'll never learn to move on
I'm trying my best to lift you up, to repair
But when I stop, you never seem to stay there

Speaking to the BBC Mayberry admitted to being nervous about revealing herself in public. "A small part of you is like, 'Do I really want to do that in front of people? Maybe I should score it all out and write something that's a little bit more vague,"' she said. "But as a writer, if you're not actually exploring things and being honest, then what are you doing? I think, sometimes, being vulnerable is harder than coming out swinging."
