Songfacts®:

  • This song is about self-destruction. It talks about how it's not worth hurting yourself, and that everyone deserves better. The lyrics, "Every time I turn around, somebody falls in love with me" remind the listener that someone always cares about you, even when you don't think anyone does. >>>

  • Matt from Harlingen, TxAnd finally in case you're THAT dense, save your scissors is in regards to cutting something out, or creating a pattern, or altering something with scissors...and he doesn't want to be changed.
  • Matt from Harlingen, TxALSO, this song isn't about depression at all, why does it say so? Needs to be reclassified...ridiculous
  • Matt from Harlingen, TxYeah sorry but Joannaa is HORRIBLY wrong about this song. First verse "So go on And I will refrain And I'll keep on running this neverending race maybe next time will be the right time
and maybe next time will be your time" Basically says ok go ahead without me, maybe the next guy is "the one" for you.

Next verse...So save your scissors For someone else's skin My surface is so tough I don't think the blade will dig in Save your strength Save your wasted time There's no way that I want you to be left behind Go on save your scissors Save your scissors..." This line is basically saying, save your time, I can't be changed, I'm not here to be changed, so go on to the next guy cuz you're wasting your time trying to change me.

Next one...So why does it always seem That every time I turn around Somebody falls in love with me? This has never been my sole intention And I have never claimed to have patents on such inventions
Here he's saying why is it when I'm just trying to have fun? meet people? who knows...do girls go and fall in love with me? I didn't go out trying for this, I have no game that I'm playing, it's just happening.....the rest of the song is equally as self explanatory. But no this song isn't about self destruction. Or hurting yourself, but it is saying yes, you deserve better, cuz I'm not going to give you what you're looking for in ME.
And no the last part does not remind the listener that someone cares about them, like I said, the narrator is perplexed as to why he keeps starting out with these girls who end up falling for him when it doesn't seem like that's what he wants at all.

  • Bedel from Greensburg, InI thought this song was about a guy who can't return the feelings of the girl who loves him. She gets angry and tries to make him feel bad about the situation. But no matter how hard she tries, she's wasting her time because he either can't or won't feel bad about what happened.
