  • In a 2012 Songfacts interview with Corey Hart, he explained the inspiration for this song: "My mother influenced me with this ethic of never quitting on yourself or your dreams no matter how challenging or daunting. I also greatly admired Sir Winston Churchill, reading many biographies on his life. He used this expression 'Never Surrender' during the dark days of the Nazi attacks on Great Britain as a motivating inspiration for his countrymen."
  • Although his most enduring song is "Sunglasses At Night," this was Hart's biggest hit, and in Canada it went to #1 and won the Juno award for Single of the Year. Hart wrote most of his songs, including this one.
  • This wasn't the first song with the title "Never Surrender" - Triumph's song hit #23 in the US two years earlier. Like Corey Hart, Triumph is from Canada.
  • This isn't known as a make-out song, but it plays in the first scene of the 2019 Stranger Things season 3 premiere, "Suzie, Do You Copy?" in a scene where the teenagers Mike and Eleven are snogging as it plays. Mike tries to turn Eleven on to Corey Hart, but she's not buying it.
