  • Jbt from Atlanta, GaAs much as it might sound like Dan is singing about a girl that he is excited about - it isn't...Dan was a very closeted gay man. And while Dan did die from a brain tumor, it was AIDS that caused the tumor.

The song is likely about meeting his lover du jour. You will note that not once is there a "she," "her," or any other reference to a woman - or a man for that matter. Incidentally, this song was one of the most popular dance songs in gay bars across the country when it came out. RIP Dan.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn October 8th 1978, "Instant Replay" by Dan Hartman entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #88; and 12 weeks later on December 31st, 1978 it peaked at #29 {for 2 weeks} and spent a total of 17 weeks on the Top 100...
    It reached #1 {for 1 week} on October 8th, 1978 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart...
Between 1978 and 1985 he had seven Top 100 records, with one reaching the Top 10, "I Can Dream About You" at #6 {for two weeks} on August 12th, 1984...
As stated above Daniel Earl Hartman passed away on March 22nd, 1994 at the young age of 43...
