  • This is the same Dan Reed that had a Top 40 hit with "Ritual" as part of his band The Dan Reed Network. After 3 albums with DRN and a tour with The Rolling Stones, Reed expanded his horizons and became an actor and a club owner, buying the venue in Portland, Oregon where his band used to play. In 1993, he went to India and met with the Dalai Lama, who he interviewed for Spin magazine. Returning to America in 2008 after three years in Jerusalem, Reed started making music again, and released the album Coming Up For Air in 2010. We discussed his meeting with the Dalai Lama and his approach to spirituality when we interviewed Dan Reed. Regarding this song, he explained: "'Closer' is about missing a dear friend, who is countries away, a person that made me see love and acceptance in a deeper way, and although you are no longer in their physical presence they are never far away in your heart. It is a personal story and to some degree I wish it to remain that way." (Check out our full Dan Reed interview.)
